Paoli Peaks has a 45,000 square foot day lodge equipped with everything that you may need while visiting our slopes! Inside the Ski lodge you will find a Cafeteria-style Restaurant & Pizzeria; our very own Bully Bar separate from the main eating area; Ski & Snowboard Rental Shop; Pro Shop; Ski Patrol First Aid Facility; Ticket Sales Office; Ski/Ride School; and the Group Sales Office.
Whether it is couples, groups, or a foursome, golfers will find a quiet cabin at Wilstem Guest Ranch a great place to relax after a round of golf. Enjoy the game at some of Indiana’s best golf courses including the nearby fully restored 1924 PGA Championship Donald Ross original French Lick Hill course.
There are courses in nearby West Baden, Sultans Run in Jasper, and the Fuzzy Zoeller courses less than an hour away in Sellersburg.
If you want to spend a few hours on the water soaking up the sun, beautiful Patoka Lake State Park is just a 20 minute drive away from Wilstem Guest Ranch. Rent a boat complete with fishing gear, or enjoy the mostly uncrowded beach. Visit the park’s nature center and learn about Native Americans who lived in this area thousands of years before European settlers. This nearly 9,000 acre lake makes a great day trip and best of all, at the end of the day you can be back in your Wilstem cabin in just minutes.
Music & Culture
The communities surrounding Wilstem Guest Ranch enjoy a rich heritage of music and culture. A visit to one of the area’s Amish farms offers a glimpse into a simpler time and way of life. Artists’ shops and studios in French Lick showcase unique creations in a variety of mediums including, glass, pottery, painting and sculpture.
Learn about the area’s history at the French Lick/West Baden Museum, 489 S. Maple St. in French Lick (1-812-936-3592). Enjoy a relaxing ride on the rails pulled by a century old engine at the French Lick Scenic Railway.
French Lick Hotel offers live music on weekends as does the French Lick town center. Orleans, Indiana is host to a free Summer Concert Series featuring the best in local and regional talent. In Paoli, there is music every weekend featuring local and regional talent. You might even find the son of famed Southern Indiana singer/songwriter Lotus Dickey performing some of his father’s time-honored music.
Orange County also is host to the annual Homegrown Concert Series.
French Lick and West Baden both offer activities for all ages. The artisans of French Lick offer unique creations in a number of shops in the town square. Enjoy fine dining in one of the restaurants at French Lick Resort or West Baden Spring Hotel. Big Splash Adventure Indoor Water Park offers year-round family fun with a fantastic pool, and a full-service hotel. In winter, neighboring Paoli Peaks offers skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing. Afterward, the cozy cabins at Wilstem provide a warm respite from the cold in front of the flickering fireplace.
Patoka Lake offers miles of beautiful shoreline for fun in the sun. Rent a boat and fish for the day or spend the day at beach. There is canoeing on the nearby Blue River (canoe rentals available). In Orleans the farmers market starts early every Saturday morning. Live music happens every weekend in Paoli near the town square.
North of Wilstem Guest Ranch is the town of Montgomery, Indiana. The area is home to more than 6,000 Amish people who, in a 400 square mile community, live a simple, peaceful life. Visit a working Amish wagon factory or enjoy the lively pace of action at Dinky’s Auction House. Nearby is Gasthof Amish Village.
Meals there are made from scratch by Amish women who live in the area. You will find quilts and other handcrafts, and woodcrafts, all made by local Amish. Farther north is the city of Bloomington, the home of Indiana University. Stroll Bloomington’s quiet streets, enjoy the college campus, and visit its arts, crafts and antiques shops.
For some peaceful, quiet reflection, head south to the monastery and church of the Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand.
An hour’s drive away in Kentucky is Louisville and the famed Churchill Downs racetrack, home of the Kentucky Derby. While there, visit the Derby Museum, the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center, or shop at Louisville’s two premiere malls, Oxmoor and Mall St. Matthews. Just a bit further are most of Kentucky’s famous horse farms like Three Chimneys, Darley, and Ashford.
You might even visit a Bourbon distillery to make a day trip in the Bluegrass State complete. Stay on the banks of the Ohio River and explore downtown Louisville’s traditional and contemporary architecture and it’s museums including the Louisville Slugger Museum and the Muhammad Ali Museum, both just an hour away from the tranquil cabins at Wilstem.
